Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know when traveling to Oman

Useful tips & tricks

  • When is the best time to travel to Oman?

Oman is a year-round destination, offering unique experiences in every season. The best time to visit is between October and April, when the weather is pleasantly mild—ideal for exploring forts, mountains, deserts, and coastal towns. However, summer has its own charm: while lowland areas can get hot, the cooler highlands of Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams offer refreshing escapes, and the southern Dhofar region transforms into a lush, green paradise during the Khareef (monsoon) season from late June to early September. Also traveling down the coast is very pleasant, even in summer. With the right itinerary, Oman can be enjoyed in every month of the year.

  • What should I wear during the tour?

Oman is a conservative country, and modest attire is appreciated. Both men and women should cover their shoulders and knees in public areas. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothes are best for staying comfortable in the heat while being culturally appropriate.

For mosque visits, women are required to wear long sleeves, ankle-long trousers or a skirt, and a headscarf. Men should wear long trousers and avoid sleeveless shirts.

Swimwear is acceptable at private beaches and pools, but it's advisable to cover up when leaving these areas. For swimming in public areas such as beaches or wadis, t-shirts and shorts for men and knee-covering leggings for women are suitable.

Oman can be hot, especially inland and in the summer. Wear sun protection, stay hydrated.

Evenings in the mountains and desert can be cool — bring a light jacket.

Comfortable closed shoes are recommended for uneven terrain and fort visits.

  • Is it safe to travel in Oman?

Yes, Oman is considered one of the safest countries in the Middle East. The crime rate is low, and locals are known for their hospitality. However, as with any travel, it's essential to stay aware of your surroundings and follow local laws and customs. If in doubt, ask your guide.

  • What languages are spoken in Oman?

Arabic is the official language. However, English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, hotels, and by tour guides. When booking a private tour you can always enquire whether you can have a guide that speaks your language. That, however, might come at an extra cost.

  • What currency is used, and are credit cards accepted?
