Oman in Summer = Kite Surfing Festival

Wind, Waves & Wonder: The Oman Kite Festival 2025
Hi, it's Ahmed - your Local Lynx.
July in Oman can be hot, especially here in Muscat. But instead of hiding indoors or escaping to the mountains this year, I’m heading east… to chase the wind. Not with a kite in my hand (I’ve never actually tried kitesurfing!), but with curiosity and a camera. Why? Because from 15 to 24 July 2025, Oman will host the Oman Kite Festival—and trust me, you don’t need to be a kitesurfer to enjoy it.
What's happening?
The festival is organized by OMRAN Group and Oman Sail, and it’s shaping up to be something really special. The highlight is a multi-stage Downwinder race, where professional kite surfers from around the world will glide across Oman's untouched coastline, from Barr Al Hikman to Masirah Island, through Ashkharah and all the way to Ras Al Hadd. Even if you’ve never set foot on a kiteboard, just watching this will be an unforgettable experience.
And let’s be honest—how often do you get to see the world’s best kite surfers riding the wind past pink lagoons, turtle beaches, and dramatic cliffs?

Why It’s More Than Just a Sport
A friend once told me, “Why would a tourist come to Oman in summer? We have rain at home.” But the Khareef in Dhofar and the kite winds on the eastern coast aren’t just any kind of rain or breeze. They’re seasonal miracles, part of Oman’s unique climate, and a huge reason why our landscapes stay lush, our coastlines alive, and even our frankincense trees thriving.
This festival is a celebration of that natural rhythm. It’s not just a sports event. It’s a window into Oman’s growing identity as an adventure destination, where nature and culture meet in breathtaking ways.

Culture, Food, and Family Fun
The Oman Kite Festival 2025 isn’t just for adrenaline junkies. There will be local food stalls, a traditional SME exhibition, and plenty of family-friendly activities happening at Ashkharah Municipal Park and other festival stops. It’s the kind of event where you can spend the whole day enjoying the breeze, watching the sky fill with color, and tasting the flavors of Oman’s coast.
Why I'm Going...
I’m not going to learn to kitesurf (at least not yet!), but I’ll be there: probably behind the lens of my camera or sipping Karak by the water, soaking it all in. This festival is a chance to see a new side of Oman, one that’s bold, breezy, and open to the world.
Whether you're an adventurer, a traveler, or just someone who loves seeing Oman grow in amazing ways, this is a moment to witness.
So come say hello if you’re out there. I’ll be the one grinning at the sky, wishing I could fly.

...and You Should Be Going, Too!
I know many of you would love to experience more than just the festival itself, we’re also offering dedicated summer tours that include a visit to the Oman Kite Festival site - alongside the many hidden gems of the Ash Sharqiyah region. Think: turtle watching at Ras Al Jinz, a sunrise-walk on Ras Al Hadd’s serene beaches, exploring the palm-lined oasis of Wadi Shab, or cooling off in the turquoise pools of Wadi Tiwi. These trips are designed for travelers who want the thrill of the festival plus the magic of Oman’s coastal treasures—all in one unforgettable journey.
